Desi Keith, yes D2 himself. Desi Keith has turned his passion and desire to help the community become physically and mentally fit, into the most exciting thing to hit Birmingham and the surrounding areas!!! Desi Keith is the owner and director of D2 Line Dancing. Desi Keith is an instructor that promotes the physical and mental well-being of all his students and all ages. Desi Keith is an amazingly enthusiastic instructor. Your life is completely changed after your first encounter!

This passion started over 10 years ago taking a group fitness class at an Over The Mountain facility, combined with learning about the stress and obesity rate among African Americans. Desi decided to start a class in the urban area of Birmingham. D2 started January 7th, 2012 at the Crescendo Bar and Lounge with 7 eager people every Monday and Wednesday night. In less than 5 years, D2 was able to get the City of Birmingham moving in an incredibly positive way. D2 has grown to well over 80 participants now meeting at the Dannon Project meeting
every Monday through Thursday. This group has grown from one small site to several sites at various demographic areas.

 

Desi Keith has been a fitness and line dance instructor, teaching Zumba, line dancing and Aerobics, for more than 10 years. He is CPR certified for adults and children through the American Red Cross and he also holds an ASE certificate. D2 welcomes folks of ALL ages to join this fitness movement. D2 and the team manages to be creative in the movements to keep the classes flowing where there is something for everyone.

D2 has received local accolades by the Mayor and local council, as well as accolades around the country opening for the Tom Joyner Morning Show and Rickey Smiley. They also travel around the country to perform for various artist and events. Desi Keith received the 2016 NAACP “Man of Distinction” Award for Outstanding Community Service. In 2018, D2 Line Dancing received a Community Empowerment Award. 

 

Desi Keith is a simple guy that loves people and loves bringing them together. This is a part of his positive nature. Desi’s favorite entrées include seafood and comfort food. He loves purple, hence the D2 logo, and all things dancing. He loves to vacation and travel to places he has never been to before. Invite him, and with the right accommodations, he will be there.
